Flood Relief Camp at Bihar

Millions of people struggled for their lives as the district of Bihar witnessed a devastating flood during the month of August 2008. In this hour of need, the employees of Shyam Steel Industries Limited came forward to extend whole-hearted support to the flood affected victims, and they were encouraged by the Management as well. In order to avoid middlemen in their relief efforts, the Company tied up with ‘Nidan’, a Bihar-based self-help group which was also working with the same objective. A select group of volunteers rushed to Bihar along with members of ‘Nidan’, and made a first-hand assessment of the entire situation. On behalf of Shyam Steel, a huge quantity of garments and blankets were distributed to the flood victims. The local MLA, DM, BDO as well as top level Police Officials were present during the entire distribution process. The whole exercise was highly appreciated and covered in several media such as ‘Dainik Jagran’ newspaper along with the local news channel ‘City’. The Company had recently organised a similar humanitarian effort to help the flood victims in Midnapore in West Bengal.
