Shyam Steel Industries Ltd. signs MOU
with WBIDC &

Mineral Development & Trading Corporation
On 5th February, 2008,
the Group signed an MOU with the Government of West Bengal on
behalf of the Govt. of West Bengal. Shyam Steel was
represented by Mr. Shyam Sunder Beriwala, Chairman & MD,
Shyam Steel Industries Ltd ; Mr. M.V.Rao, M.D., West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation
(WBIDC) and Mr. A.Sen,
Chairman, West Bengal Mineral
Development & Trading Corporation, represented West
Bengal government. A press conference on the same was held at
The Park, Kolkata on 13th February, 2008.
The MoU is for setting up of two Green field Integrated Steel Plants - one
at Purulia (on 1200 acres) with a
capacity 1.1 Million Tonne and another at Kharagpur (650
acres ) with a
capacity of 0.6 million Tonne. The projects will entail
and investment of Rs. 3000 crores. The
State Government has assured availability of land as well as
infrastructure facilities like water and power supply, railway
siding and allotment of iron ore mines in Jharkhand and Orissa.
Andal (East) Coal Block in West Bengal has been identified for
allotment, for captive use in the proposed plants, in joint
venture with WBMDTC. The Purulia project will also have a 1
Million tonne cement and 150 MW captive power plants. The
Kharagpur project will have similar facilities including a
captive 75 MW power plant.
The
group has appointed M.N.Dustoor as the technical consultant,
to select and implement the latest global technology.
